Bhubaneswar: A senior official of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) was on Thursday arrested by Nayapalli police for allegedly duping a businessman on the pretext of giving him a land. The police said the NTPC official identified as Bidyut Bhusan Jati had taken Rs 20 lakh from the city-based by businessman Dillip Kumar Sahoo three years ago. However, Jati had showed forged documents of the land and later when Sahoo demanded him to return the money, Jati did not return the money. As a result of which Sahoo lodged a complaint with the police leading to arrest of the NTPC official. Sambalpur: Hirakud, dam authorities have decided to open 20 sluice gates on Friday to release excess water. With the opening of the 20 gates, flood waters from the reservoir would be released from 24 gates, said chief engineer, Hirakud Dam Biswajit Mohanty. The dam authorities had opened 23 gates on June 24 to release the first phase floodwater from the reservoir. Later, they closed 19 gates after monitoring the water level. Berhampur: Jadu Rath, 60, a famous play director of Ganjam, died in his house at Bijipur on Thursday. Town police have recovered his body in the afternoon. During his 40-year career, he has directed more than one thousand plays.
