Bhubaneswar: Challenging the alleged attempts of both the central and state governments to dilute the authority of the gram sabha established under Forest Rights Act, the state chapter of Campaign for Survival and Dignity, Odisha, on Thursday staged an agitation near the Assembly. The outfit condemned the central government for the recent “anti-people” land acquisition ordinance, which again undermines the authority of the gram sabha and also condemned the state government for its failure to recognise the Community Forest Rights. Paradip: Delivering the verdict on the gunning down of Sanjay Swain, a businessman, three years ago, Kendrapara district and sessions judge on Thursday sentenced three gangsters Krushna Priya Singh, Ajay Das and Biswa Ranjan Rath to life imprisonment, while holding them guilty of committing the cold-blooded murder. Cuttack: City police on Thursday arrested three persons for allegedly looting gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh from a trader last month. The gang had looted 672 grams of ornaments from Rauso Gaykwad, a jeweller, who had come to the city for selling the gold. The incident had occurred on the evening of December 24.
