Bhubaneswar: Seventy passengers of a Delhi-bound Air India flight had a lucky escape even as it made an emergency landing at city airport on Wednesday midnight owing to technical snag. The flight returned to the airport 20 minutes after take off. Hotel accommodation was arranged around 2am for them. Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday filed a petition in the sub- divisional judicial magistrate court for conducting a brain-mapping test on retired army doctor Somnath Parida, 72, accused of murdering his wife and chopping her body into 200 pieces. The court on July 20 had rejected the cops’ petition to conduct a narco analysis test of Parida whose lawyer said he would move a bail petition soon. Bhubaneswar: Amulya Rout, 30, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly cheating a girl of Rs 31,000 promising her admission into the economics department of Utkal University. Rout alias Anil Patnaik befriended the girl by posing as an employee of Indian Air Force. Sambalpur: Lawyers of bar association here resorted to an economic blockade on Wednesday. They demanded setting up of a high court bench in western Odisha. The lawyers gathered at various places and stopped goods vehicles only. Lawyers of Jharsuguda bar association joined the agitation. Bhubaneswar: Mesco Steel president J.K. Singh on Wednesday met chief minister Naveen Patnaik to discuss an investment plan of Rs 8000 crore for the expansion of the Kalinganagar steel plant from 1.2 million tones per annum (MTPA) to 4.7 MTPA and urged the government to provide raw materials. The company has already invested Rs 2500 crore. Bhubaneswar: A total of 1,048 tribal villages in the state would get pipe water connection over the next three years. An amount of Rs 100 crore has been allotted for the purpose.
