Road accident kills two

Balasore: A woman and her 32-year-old son died in a road accident on Thursday near Betnoti in Mayurbhanj district. The motorcycle they were on collided with an SUV. While the mother died on the spot, the son succumbed to his injuries at Balasore district headquarters hospital.

Strict action

Hack case

Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested two more persons in the hand-chopping incident of two migrant labourers in Kalahandi, said Kalahandi superintendent of police Sarthak Sarangi.arlier, the police had arrested five persons in the same case on December 15. Among the five is the main accused, Parvesh Duni, a labour contractor.

Fishermen

Bhubaneswar: The state fisheries and animal resources development department on Thursday signed an MoU with the IFFCO Kishan Sanchar Limited (IKSL) for providing information to fishermen through mobile phones. Of the 12 lakh fishermen in the state, one lakh will be provided with the SIM card and these numbers would receive four or five free voice messages in Odia daily.

IIT deal

Bhubaneswar: An MoU was on Thursday signed between Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Dash Foundation (DDF), Minneapolis, USA, to carry out research and development in the field of probiotics and pharmaceutical products. he MoU will help IIT-B to pursue cutting-edge research and education in disciplines of biosciences and bioengineering and related technology leading to its capacity building.

HC move

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Thursday expressed its disinclination to interfere in the case of the closure of Indian-Manufactured Foreign Liquor shops on the side of national highway in Cuttack following an order issued by the state excise commissioner.
