Snatchers injure teacher

Bhubaneswar: A female school teacher was seriously injured when some goons tried to snatch away her gold chain. The victim has been identified as Anupama Swain, a teacher of Hirakud Government High School. She was rushed to Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, for treatment. Swain was on her scooty when the snatchers attacked her.

Vandalism

Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted in Chheligada under R Udayagiri police station in Gajapati district after some goons vandalised a Hanuman temple and a Shiv temple in the village. The goons did the act at night. The local people have demanded immediate investigation into the incident and identification of the culprits at the earliest.

Angul tension

Talcher: Three goons shot at a man in Angul on Wednesday morning. According to reports, three unidentified youths came on a motorcycle and fired at Anjan Kumar Dube, a loader operator, near the Central Colony. Police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the hospital. His condition is stated to be critical. Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was a fallout of a dispute between the injured and the other group over the possession of a land. The police are looking for the attackers.

New coach

Bhubaneswar: With a view to avoid rush in regular trains and to provide comfortable journey to the passengers, East Coast Railway has decided to add one air-conditioned three-tier compartment from both directions to the Visakhapatnam-Amritsar Hirakud Express permanently with immediate effect. Similarly, Visakhapatnam-Nizamuddin-Visakhapatnam Samata Express via Rayagada and Titilagarh will also also have an extra air-conditioned three-tier compartment from both the directions.

Karate

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Karate Championship is set to host the 26th Cadet, Junior and Senior State Karate Championship at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall here from January 14. About 400 competitors and officials from 24 district karate associations will take part in 31 categories in the three-day event.
