Assembly session

Bhubaneswar: The monsoon session of the state Assembly concluded on Saturday. During the eight-day session, 14 legislative bills were passed.

New collector

Bhubaneswar: Cuttack district collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra was transferred to Khurda on Saturday. He was replaced by Susanta Mohapatra. Dhiren Kumar Patnaik was appointed as the director of secondary education.

Subodh Patnaik

Cuttack: Theatre personality and lyricist Subodh Patnaik, who worked for the Odia cinema industry for decades, passed away on Saturday.  A doctor by profession, Patnaik started his career in the film industry as a dialogue writer in Danda Balunga in 1984.

Police meet

Cuttack: Director-general of Odisha Police R.P. Sharma urged police personnel on Saturday to hone their skills in scientific investigation to improve the conviction rate in the state. Speaking at the 65th Odisha Police Duty Meet at Reserve Police Ground in Cuttack, Sharma said that conviction rate in the state was one of the lowest in the country. Hence, senior officials and personnel at the police station levels need to develop skills to tackle crime in more professional manner.

Gang busted

Bhubaneswar: Police busted a gambling gang and arrested 13 persons in Tamando police limits in the city on Saturday. The police seized Rs 1,43,000 in cash and two sets of playing cards from their possession.
