Route switch

Bhubaneswar: Law minister Pratap Jena had to take a different route to Salipur here on Saturday amid apprehensions of egg attacks from the Opposition parties. Jena was on his way to Salipur to attend two events, including an event marking the 34th anniversary of the Judicial Magistrate First Class court when he reportedly changed the route for fear over an attack by the Congress. 

Suspension

Bhubaneswar: The state unit of the BJP on Saturday revoked the suspension of 11 party leaders, including senior leader and former MLA Jaynarayan Mishra. State unit chief Basant Panda announced that the party had revoked Mishra's suspension after he admitted his mistake and, in written, said he would follow and work according to the party guidelines after a meeting at the party headquarters here.

Cops attacked

Nayagarh: Three police personnel were injured in an attack by villagers at Gudupangi over construction of a road in their locality on Saturday. Work was going on for the last few days. The police deployed at the construction site of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana road connecting Balabhadrapur and Dhipamal faced the wrath of villagers who oppose the road passing through their locality.

Flight safety

Bhubaneswar: Authorities of the Biju Patnaik International Airport have decided to install an automated weather observation system on the runway to overcome hassles in flight operations because of poor visibility, especially in winter. The new system will augment safety during landing of international flights on the runway.

Dam water

Cuttack: This season's first floodwaters from Hirakud dam will be released on Sunday between 10am and 12pm, Harmohan Pradhan, chief engineer of the dam, said on Saturday. Pradhan said the standard operating procedure  would be followed before opening the dam gates and district collectors in lower catchments area have already been informed about the release.

Baby killed

Keonjhar: A woman killed her 11-month-old son after a quarrel with her husband in Keonjhar on Friday.
