Dowry dispute
Balasore: A woman suffered serious burn injuries after her mother-in-law allegedly threw acid on her over a dowry dispute at Deula village in Bhograi police limits in Balasore district on Monday. The woman was admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. According to the complaint, the mother-in-law and husband of the victim have allegedly been torturing her both physically and mentally since her marriage demanding more money as dowry.
Attacked
Angul: The husband of Tendulei sarpanch of Angul district Liza Behera was attacked by some unknown goons late on Monday night owing to past rivalry. According to reports, when Liza’s husband Kedara Behera was returning home with his cousin Madan on a bike around 1.30 am, eight goons attacked him with sharp weapons and fled the spot. He suffered injuries in his legs, head and hands. He was admitted to Talcher Central Hospital in critical condition and later shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
Rescued
Jajpur: Police on Tuesday rescued a businessman from Jajpur who was reportedly abducted from Puri on Monday. According to reports, Sribas Jena, who was into mines quarrying, was rescued from Rathia in Jaraka police limits in the district.
The four abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore for his release. Jena, a resident of Saroi village, was kidnapped in his car from the Puri on Monday.
Hunger strike
Sambalpur: Inmates of Sambalpur Circle jail have resorted to hunger strike since Monday evening demanding supply of narcotic substances to them. According to reports, out of 600 prisoners lodged at the jail, around 250 of them have launched the stir demanding supply of cigarettes, gutkha, bhang, beedi etc. A huge cache of narcotic substances was seized from the jail during a raid on June 4. Nine mobile phones, SIM cards, ganja, liquor and other intoxicants were also recovered.
