Ashoka Market
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority will demolish the decades-old Ashoka Market at Master Canteen Square to make way for the railway station multi-modal hub project. Vendors of the market have been assigned 129 shops at various parts of the city for relocation. The vendors will have to shift to the newly allotted shops within a fortnight.
DNA test
Sambalpur: The DNA test of a baby boy who was rescued from Bargarh on Sunday will be conducted shortly, police said. The test will ascertain whether he is the same child who was stolen from a Sambalpur hospital on April 23. According to reports, Sambalpur police rescued the infant from a Bargarh couple, who claimed to have adopted the baby from someone within the family.
MP hurt
Jaipur (PTI): BJD leader and MP Rita Tarei suffered injuries on her right leg after an abrupt fall during a party programme at Sukinda in Jajpur district. The incident happened when Tarei, who represents Jajpur in Lok Sabha, was proceeding after alighting from the vehicle to take part in the party’s Jana Sampark Yatra at Kaliapani on Sunday, said the BJD’s Sukinda MLA Pritiranjan Ghadei.

Protest
Nuapada: BJP activists blocked NH-353 near Tarbod village in the district on Monday to demand a high-level probe into the collapse of the roof of an under-construction staff quarter at Sahajat Sevashram here. Tjhe protest disrupted traffic on the road . Several vehicles were stranded on both sides of the stretch. Attributing the mishap to poor quality construction work, the BJP demanded stern action against persons responsible for the incident.

Nayagarh: A truck driver was seriously injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Nayagarh district on Monday. The incident occurred in the morning near Badagorada under Sarankul police limits when two armed criminals on motorycles intercepted a cement-laden truck and fired at the driver from close range, leaving him seriously injured.
Forgery case
Bhawanipatna: The works department here lodged a police complaint on Sunday against Suraj Enterprises for alleged forgery in a move to crackdown on contractors, which submit forged documents to win tenders. The works department said Rajendra Prasad Agarwal and his son, Bunty, the proprietors of Suraj Enterprises, had provided 48 forged term deposit receipts to win tenders.

Bhubaneswar: BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday appointed Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Deb as observer for the Sambalpur district and Krutibas Patra for Boudh district. Former Dhenkanal Congress leader Sudhir Samal, who joined the party in April, was appointed as the general secretary of the party.

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Sambalpur will run once a week from February. The 20817/20818 train will run Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express via Sambalpur City and Jharsuguda from February 10, 2018 from Bhubaneswar and fromFebruary 11, 2018 from New Delhi, East Coast Railway said in a statement on Sunday.
40 goats dead
Keonjhar: Around 40 goats died in lightning strikes in two blocks of Keonjhar district on Sunday night, sources said. 20 goats died at Bindhali Sahi of Balsoapal block, while 20 more died at Harishchandrapur.
Cheetahs
Bhubaneswar: State government’s claims over safety of wildlife has failed to bear fruit with decline in the numbers of cheetahs over the past years. The number of cheetahs has declined from 487 in 2004 to 318 in 2017. According to forest and environment department data, there were 196 male cheetahs, 218 female cheetahs and 13 cubs in 2004. Except Sambalpur, the number has declined in all other circles in the state.
