Fake fee collection  

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation squad has seized duplicate receipts from four persons who were collecting parking fees illegally at Ashok Nagar market by the name of BMC. Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena has given assignment to one of his officer to submit details of authorised parking spots so that he can go personally and take action at places where illegal parking fees are collected.

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to maintain transparency in receiving complaints, the state police have decided to appoint one desk officer at each police station. The desk officers in the reception centre of each police station will handover an acknowledgement to the complainants after receiving the report. Director general of police, K.B. Singh on Wednesday organised a videoconference with concerned SPs to chalk out the modalities of the new scheme. 

Brave girl

Kendrapara: In a bid to confer recognition to a six-year-old girl Basanti Dalai who displayed exemplary courage to save her friend from a crocodile’s attack, the Kendrapara district administration has decided to recommend her for national bravery award. Basanti, a Class-I student of a state-run primary school in Bankuala village in Rajnagar tehsil, saved her friend Tiki Dalai from the crocodile.

Four killed

Bhubaneswar: Four persons were killed while three others suffered injuries in two separate road accidents in the state on Wednesday. Two persons died and three others sustained injuries when a Tata Winger van hit two motorcycles near Hatibari in Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur district on Wednesday. In another incident, two youths were killed when a truck hit a motorcycle on national highway-55 near Bamur in Angul district on Wednesday. 

Pet love

Berhampur:  A lady advocate Minati Rath jumped into the well in her house to save the life of her pet dog on Tuesday evening. Minati, who is the vice-president of Ganjam Bar Association, though able to save the life of the pet dog, but she could not come out of the well and was rescued by the fire brigade after one hour.
