Rajdhani derailed

Bhubaneswar: Passengers of New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express, which had left Bhubaneswar on Friday, had a scare after the train’s engine derailed while entering Tatanagar railway station. However, there has been no report of any damage to life and property. The incident occurred around 3pm. An inquiry has been ordered in this connection.

Trial run

Bhubaneswar: A trial run was conducted on the newly constructed railway line between Begunia and Rajsunakhala on Friday. The stretch comes under Khurda-Balangir railway project. In July this year, railway minister Suresh Prabhu had inaugurated the new railway line between Khurda Road and Begunia, a 32km stretch of the 289km Khurda-Balangir track at Begunia in Khurda district.

Electrocution

Kendrapara: A 33-year-old mechanic died after being electrocuted in Badaphogal village in Kendrapara while repairing a motor pump in his house. Police said the deceased, Hemant Barik, died on the spot. A case of unnatural death case has been registered.

HC order

Paradip: Alleged irregularities perpetrated during implementation of CRS grants at Paradipgada have come under judicial scanner. Orissa High Court taking cognisance of a petition in this regard has directed the Jagatsinghpur district administration to initiate disciplinary action. Local sarpanch Sashmita Behera was accused of misusing the CSR grants released by the Indian Oil Corporation. 

Dengue case

Balasore: A fresh case of dengue has been reported in Nilgiri. Narahari Patra of Dwarika village has been admitted to the district headquarter hospital where he is being kept under quarantine. 

Student drowns

Sambalpur: A class VII student of UGUP School of Baliposhi village under Deogarh police drowned in the village pond during the immersion of the school’s Ganesh idol on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Mithun Samal, 12. The villagers later blocked NH-49 at Kandhal demanding compensation for the deceased’s family and action against the teacher who asked the students to immerse the idol.  

Six hurt in fire

Jeypore: Six persons were severely injured as fire broke out in a rice mill at Kanga under Jeypore block of Koraput district. The boiler exploded causing the fire at the unit. The injured have been admitted to the Jeypore sub-divisional hospital. 

Body found

Kendrapara: Police have retrieved the bloated body of an unidentified person near the sea coast of Angari forest block in Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary. The body has been sent for post mortem, Rajnagar police said. 

Two held

Balasore: Police have arrested two persons and seized a pick-up van and 600 litres of diesel. Ganesh Das, 26, of Bhimpura village and driver Bikash Pradhan, 27, were sent to jail after their bail plea was rejected.
