Accident death
Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and 30 suffered critical injuries when a bus fell off a bridge in Kalahandi district on Wednesday. The accident took place near Thuamul Rampur Balighat while the bus
was on its way to Gopinathpur from Bhawanipatana.
MLA gets bail
Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former BJD MLA from Keonjhar Subarna Naik against Rs 2 lakh cash security deposit and two sureties of Rs 2 lakh each. Naik was arrested by CBI on
November 4, 2014, for alleged links with Nabadiganta Capital Services, a major player in the unauthorised deposit collection scam in the state. He has since been in jail.
Bank holidays
Bhubaneswar: Financial institutions will remain closed for four days starting August 12. Banks will be shut for the second Saturday of the month on August 12 followed by Sunday, Krishna Janmashtami on August 14 and Independence Day on August 15. Also, banks will again be closed on August 26 on occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi followed by fourth Saturday of the month on August 27 and Sunday on August 28.
Wall caves in
Bhubaneswar: A portion of the historical Emar Mutt faced nature’s wrath after the boundary wall adjacent to Mati Mandap Sahi caved in on Wednesday following heavy rain for the last couple of days. A house adjacent to the wall also collapsed. Some mutt officials had a close shave as they were asleep in a room close to the house that collapsed.
Scam tainted
Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Wednesday sent Pushpendra Singh Baghel, the owner and MD of a prominent deposit collection company, Sai Prakash Properties Development Ltd, to CBI court in Bhubaneswar. He was brought from Madhya Pradesh on 10 days transit remand. Baghel has been accused of being involved in fraud of over Rs 88 crores in the state.
