Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday empowered district collectors as additional registrar of cooperative societies in their respective districts. They will handle Primary Agriculture Co-operative Societies, Large Size Adivasi Multi-purpose Co-operative Societies, Service Co-operative Societies and Farmers Service Co-operative 
Societies. 

Nalco move

Bhubaneswar: Nalco on Friday launched “Gyanalok: The Idea Park” — a web-based content writing platform for college and university students to provide a platform for budding scholars, writers, students to express their ideas through writings on subjects of socio-cultural, business relevance and nation building. 

Kid branded

Keonjhar: A seven-year-old was branded with hot iron in Keonjhar on Friday. The child from Phuljhara village was branded by his family members to “cure” him of malaria. The kid was rushed to the district headquarters hospital.

Burnt alive

Bhubaneswar: A man was charred to death when the bike he was driving caught fire after a head-on collision with a PDS kerosene tanker at Haladharpur in Ghataggan police limits in the district on Friday.  

Apathy

Nabarangpur: A pregnant woman had to walk a kilometre to reach an ambulance while experiencing labour pain in Murlibai village on Friday. Kasturi Jani, complained of acute labour pain following which her family members called the 102 ambulance service. However, the ambulance could not reach the woman’s house, as there is no accessible road.
