SIM box probe
Berhampur: The Special Task Force of crime branch police on Sunday took over probe into seizure of SIM box (a device that can convert international calls to local calls to avoid police detection) here in which four persons were arrested on Saturday for alleged links with mafia don Chotta Rajan.
Special DG (crime branch) B.K. Sharma said in a tweet that a team of officials of STF (special task force) and EOW
(Economic Offence Wing), including cyber investigators led by an additional SP, had been sent to Gopalpur to investigate the case. "The FIR filed alleges that the illegal telephone exchange was facilitating international calls and had links with organised crime groups," he said.
A petition will be moved in a local court seeking remand of the four accused to allow further
investigation.
Rain woes
Angul: A brief spell of rain on Saturday left the Pallahada hospital in Angul in ankle-deep water inside its premises, leaving patients and inmates distressed. Patients had to lie helpless with water running under their beds. Water from nearby drains had entered into the hospital making the place unhygienic.
Verandah birth
Bargarh: A woman delivered on the verandah of the Bargarh district headquarters hospital on Sunday because of alleged medical negligence. Family members had brought Jayanti Suna, wife of Rupadhara Suna of Talapali village, to the hospital after she complained of labour pains. However, the doctor at the hospital referred Jayanti to Burla hospital citing her critical condition.
New train
Bhubaneswar (PTI): A weekly Humsafar Express between Bhubaneswar and Bangalore start running from July 13. On the inaugural run, the train will run as a special train with number 02033 from Bhubaneswar at 2.30pm. On the return journey, this special train will leave Krishnarajpuram (Bangalore) as 02034 at 11.15pm on July 14, East Coast Railway said. However, the regular service for this train (22833/22834) will commence from Bhubaneswar from July 17 and from Krishnarajpuram (Bangalore) from July 18. This train will have 16 AC-3 tier coaches, one pantry car and two guard-cum-generator cars.
