CM meets topper
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated Monika Mankadia, who topped this year's Class X board examination. Naveen congratulated Monkia and assured to help her in her pursuit of higher education. He also gifted her a tablet.
Pay withheld
Bhubaneswar: Balangir collector Ashish Thakare issued an instruction to hold back a day's salary of district officials who were absent in the monsoon preparatory meeting that was held on Monday. An order has been issued against the officials for their break-in-service as they were absent without permission, sources said. Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra, who was also present, said action should be taken against the officials.
Plant fire
Angul: A fire broke out at the Jindal Steel and Power Limited here on Monday. The incident took place around 10am when the plant was operational. However, no casualties were reported from the incident. While the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire could have taken place from a short circuit in the factory. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the event amid much fanfare on Saturday.

Bhubaneswar: Social activist Linkan Subudhi on Monday filed a complaint with the police after her picture appeared on a porn website. Linkan is known for fighting against child marriage and other social injustices. Sources said Linkan had registered the complaint with the Chandrasekharpur police after finding out that her picture had been used on a pornnographic website. The software engineer-turned-social activist demanded action against the proprietor of the website.
Cleric case
Cuttack: The committal of the case of Abdul Rahman, a cleric with alleged Al-Qaeda terrorist links, from the court of the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Salipur, for trial to the district sessions court in Cuttack, was adjourned on Monday for the second time in a fortnight, till June 12.
