Naveen for new train

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has urged railway minister Suresh Prabhu to introduce a new daily air-conditioned express train between Mumbai and Puri or Khurda Road via Sambalpur. Pointing out that a train connection between Mumbai and Odisha was important, the chief minister said ealier, he had also had requested that a Humsafar-type new air-conditioned express train be run between Khurda Road and Munbai and named Buxi Jagbandhu Express commemorating Odisha's great freedom fighter. The chief minister underscored the need for such a train saying that lots of Odias work in Maharashtra and vice-versa.

Prisoner flees

Sundargarh: Bijay Kumar Pradhan, 24, an undertrial prisoner, escaped from police custody in Bonai in Sundargarh district. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when he was being transferred to jail after being produced in a local court. Another undertrial, who also attempted to escape, was captured. But Bijay managed to flee.

Sunstroke

Bhubaneswar: One person died of sunstroke on Sunday. With this, the total number of sunstroke deaths touched 12. The latest casualty was reported from Bargarh district, the office of the special relief commissioner said in a statement.

Thunderstorm

Nabarangpur: A thunderstorm ravaged Nabarangpur on Sunday ripping off the roofs of more than 70 houses, uprooting trees and damaging crops. 

One dead

Bhubaneswar: One person died and four others were critically injured in a scuffle over share of contract works during a palli sabha at Boudh district on Sunday. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

Tourists

Bhubaneswar: The tourist arrival in the state has gone up from 98,66,810 in 2013 to 1,29,19,260 in 2016, recording a growth rate of nine per cent per annum, tourism minister Ashok Panda said on Sunday.
