Villagers abducted

Bhubaneswar: Two villagers were abducted allegedly by Maoists in Malkangiri district on Sunday. Police sources said that the rebels had kidnapped two villagers from Mahupadar village in Mathili police station limits as they suspected the duo to be police informers. About four to five persons had come to the village wearing police uniform and abducted the duo.

Sunstroke

Bhubaneswar: As many as 60 persons have so far died this summer as the state continues to reel from severe heat. According to a news release issued by the special relief commissioner, the government had completed inquiry into 21 of the 60 deaths. Eight sunstroke death cases have been confirmed while 13 others died due of other health complications that were aggravated by the heat. Nine cases were reported from Angul, while Sambalpur recorded eleven cases. Khurda, Dhenkanal and Kendrapada districts recorded five cases each. Bargarh and Sundargarh have recorded four cases.

Encounter

Bhubaneswar: Odisha police along with CRPF personnel destroyed a Maoist camp in a gun battle with the rebels in Rourkela on Saturday night. The encounter lasted for around half an hour. Police seized 200 live bullets, explosives and other items from the spot.

Boar attack

Bhubaneswar: A woman and her daughter were critically injured after a wild boar attacked them at Balangir on Sunday. According to reports, Kuni Parua and her daughter Brundabati were attacked by the boar while they were busy collecting mahua from a forest at the nearby Sirabahal village in Tushura police limits. The duo were rushed to the district headquarters hospital where they are now undergoing treatment.

Ganja seized

Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday detained four persons, including two constables, for smuggling huge quantity of ganja on a truck laden with broken glass bottles in Koraput district. Borigumma police seized seven packets of ganja, which were being illegally transported to Raipur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh on a truck. The truck has been seized.
