Family robbed

Balasore: Unidentified robbers looted cash and jewellery worth lakhs from the house of one Abhaya Kumar Mohapatra near Uttareswar market in Balasore on Wednesday. According to the complaint lodged by the victim, the robbery occurred when the family had gone to Puri. The robbers broke open the grille to enter the house, before decamping with the cash and valuables. 

Maoists

Bhubaneswar: The Special Operations Group nabbed three Maoists, two of whom are allegedly from Odisha, from a forest area in Sukma in Chhattisgarh. Sources said the trio have been identified as Kuasi Hadma, Ramnath Nag, and Bucha Dhurba. Among them, Ramnath and Bucha are believed to be from Malkangiri district.

One killed

Sundargarh: A man was hacked to death allegedly by his wife and his son at Sarsara village in Sundargarh district on Tuesday over a dispute. Sources said the deceased, Lochana Munda, had asked for money to buy liquor. Police have detained the mother-son duo, identified as Hema and Chakra, for interrogation. According to sources, Lochana asked for Rs 50 from Hema. When Hema declined, an argument ensued between the two.

Panel rap for govt

Bhubaneswar: National Commission for Women member Sushma Sahu on Wednesday criticised the state government for failing to provide safety and security to women. She will meet Parbati Sasmal, who was allegedly attacked by BJD members for handing over a petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 15. “Odisha has become a slaughter house for women and, ironically, the police here have become puppets in the hands of the government.” Earlier, a BJP team had met home minister Rajnath Singh over this issue.
