Vigilance raids
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials conducted raids on offices of Odisha State Co-operative Marketing Federation Limited (Markfed) at Kalpana Square in the state capital and at Jaleswar in Balasore district on Friday over alleged irregularities. The sleuths also raided the regulated market committee godowns at Attabira and Sambalpur. During the raids at Bhubaneswar Markfed office, the registers of the godown, stock and sale details were scrutinised.
Bus service
Bhubaneswar: The bus services between Puri and Cuttack resumed after private bus owners come to an agreement on Friday. The services were disrupted since the past seven days due to a protest over an assault on a Puri bus staff at Cuttack Bus Terminal. The services were resumed after a high-level meeting chaired by the transport minister Ramesh Majhi.
Suicide
Dhenkanal: A farmer allegedly committed suicide in Dhenkanal on Friday. The deceased farmer identified as Arun Baral from Nuagaon village in Dhenkanal Sadar police station limits had allegedly consumed poison on March 29 in an attempt to commit suicide after suffering severe crop loss. Arun was under severe stress to repay his loans.
Fire at godown
Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at a furniture godown at Behera Sahi in Nayapalli on Thursday night. Properties worth over Rs 1 lakh was destroyed in the fire. Although no casualties were reported, a staff of the godown was injured and later rushed to hospital. Three fire brigades reached the spot to douse the flames. Though the exact reason of the incident was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the fire erupted due to short circuit.

Cuttack: BJP Yuva Morcha city unit president Subrat Lenka said on Friday that the gherao of OCA club planned for the day was postponed due to the national executive meeting.
DFO arrested
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths arrested Bargarh divisional forest officer Solaram Marandi on Friday while he was travelling in a bus near Judia Ghati in Keonjhar district with Rs 1 lakh in his possession. The money has been seized. Marandi was travelling from Keonjhar to Bhagbandh village when the vigilance sleuths stopped him. Later, raids were conducted on his office and residences at Bargarh, Bhagbandh, Rairangpur and Bhubaneswar.
Elephant dead
Bhubaneswar: The carcass of a baby elephant was found in Chemedi forest in Odagaon forest division of Nayagarh district. The carcass was buried after a post mortem. The forest department officials said the baby elephant was about five years old and died due to some health problem.
Tension
Koraput: Tension prevailed at a hospital in Koraput over a patient’s death. Family members of the patient blamed the doctors for the death of the baby. They also ransacked the hospital. Sources said Sabitri of Kolab was being treated at the hospital. She died on Thursday.
