Bhubaneswar, May 19: The state government today cancelled leaves of all its employees in view of the heading of cyclonic storm Roanu, which is now located over the Bay of Bengal, towards Odisha. The cyclone is likely to make landfall tomorrow.
Though all schools are closed for summer vacation, the government has asked the school headmasters to open the buildings and give shelter to distressed people.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the administration's preparedness to tackle the possible calamity. He directed all departments and district collectors to remain alert to face any eventuality.
The state had experienced a super cyclone in 1999, cyclone Phailin in 2013 and another cyclone, Hudhud, in 2014.
In the evening, Naveen also discussed about disaster preparedness measures with 12 district collectors through video conferencing.
Chief secretary A.P. Padhi said Naveen had asked the officials to open round-the-clock control rooms and keep Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force teams ready to carry out relief and rescue operations. Naveen has also directed the officials to keep food grains, drinking water, lights, petrol and fast aid facilities ready.
