Bhubaneswar, March 1: The second regional transport office (RTO) of the city started functioning from a rented house near Patia today.
The vehicles registered under this RTO would get numbers starting from OD-33, while those under the existing RTO office near Vani Vihar would have registration number starting from OD-02. The new RTO office would have jurisdiction over nine police station areas — Mancheswar, Nayapalli, Tamando, Jatni, Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, Khandagiri, Chandaka and Nandankanan. The city has 19 police stations excluding the Mahila and Energy police stations.
The new office now has two junior clerks, one senior clerk and two data entry operators. The office will issue driving licence, fitness certificates and vehicle permits. An official said that posts of motor vehicle inspector, assistant regional transport officer and traffic inspectors would shortly be filled up.
“The second office will ease the burden on the existing one,” said transport minister Subrat Tarai. He said the state government had plans to start two more RTOs. These offices would be opened at Talcher in Angul district and the district headquarters town of Jajpur.
