“Keeping in view the demand for regular and self-financing commerce subjects, two new courses, including one add-on course, will be launched soon,” said commerce head of the department, Sanjay Satpathy.
He said these courses would boost the employability of the students and help them secure jobs with various multi-national companies.
The add-on course will be supported by the UGC. Similarly, efforts are also on to introduce diploma in computerised accounting at the university to train students in new-age courses including tally.
On the other hand, the department of political science will also introduce a foundation course in human rights from next month. It will be a three-month course and students from any discipline who have passed Class XII can opt for this by paying Rs 500 as admission fee.
“We are planning to start the foundation course with around 50 to 60 undergraduate students from within the university.
“Depending on the response of the students, the intake might be increased from the next session,” said course coordinator and head of political science department, Niranjan Barik.
According to Barik, Prof. Hargopal, who acted as mediator between the state government and Maoists during Malkangiri collector, Vineel Krishna’s abduction by the Red rebels, is likely to address the students during the launching ceremony of the foundation course on August 16.
Upon completion of this course, a student will be provided with a certificate so that he/she can get jobs in NGO and other related sectors.
The university will announce the dates for application for these courses soon and fresh admissions will be conducted in August.
