Berhampur, May 23: A criminal case has been registered against an ENT doctor while the owner of a private nursing home was arrested on the charge of negligence in the treatment of a 25-year-old woman. The negligence led to the death of the woman, her kin has alleged.

Swarnaprava died after she was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in a serious condition.

“We took action after Niranjan Das, husband of Swarnaprava, lodged a complaint with Baidyanathpur police station,” said sub-divisional police officer Sarat Mahapatra.

“We have registered a case against the hospital owner, Shankar Kumar Sahu, and ENT specialist Mamata Sahu. We will initiate further action against them if the post-mortem report confirms it to be a case of negligence,” said inspector in charge of Baidyanathpur police station Deepak Mishra.

Sub-collector Ajit Mishra have ordered shifting of all its patients to MKCG.

“Dr Mamata Sahu, who is also an associate professor in the ENT department of MKCG, referred Swarnaprava to Ayush Hospital at 12 noon on Tuesday while the operation took place at 4pm,” Shankar said.
