Bhubaneswar, Dec. 9: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today extended his government's support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives - Swachha Bharat, Make in India and Skill India.
Naveen said his government had supported the Prime Minister's initiatives aimed to transform India in the true spirit of co-operative federalism.
The chief minister said he had emphasised on the need to ensure that the planning process pertaining to social sectors, tribal people and other vulnerable sections did not suffer due to resource crunch.
He said the states must have enough freedom to prepare their plans based on local needs.
'I suggested that the finance commission should be strengthened or restructured to ensure adequate resource-support to the states along with flexibility in their planning,' Naveen said.
He said the state had demanded setting up of the National Resources Centre in Odisha on disaster management.
'Odisha's preparedness has already been tested on two successive severe cyclones - Phalin in 2013 and Hudhud in 2014. Odisha has set a benchmark for others to follow in disaster management,' the chief minister said.
He apprised the Prime Minister of the fact that the state had received accolades from the UN for its relief and restoration during Phailin.
On his meeting with the railway minister, Naveen said he had urged the minister to allocate Rs 3,200 crore for the next financial year for new lines, doubling electrification projects and passengers amenities.
'I have urged him to complete all the ongoing projects, including doubling of lines, augmentation of Puri railway station, additional platforms in Bhubaneswar and construction of Yatari Nivas in Puri by March 2015,' said Naveen.
