Baripada, Jan. 11: Mayurbhanj police arrested two persons yesterday on the charge of killing a widow suspecting her to be a witch.

The two accused — Krushna Aldar and Jagannath Tiria — killed Janaki Hembram, 45, of Kunarbila village in Guridia gram panchayat of Joshipur block, by shooting her with arrows.

The incident took place at the foothills of Similipal yesterday. Janaki’s body bore arrow injury marks at four places. Apart from the bow and arrows used in the crime, the police have also seized a knife and blood-soaked clothes of the deceased. The body has been sent for autopsy at the sub-divisional hospital at Karanjia.

“The accused have confessed their involvement,” said inspector in charge of Joshipur police station Nabakrushna Nayak.
