Bhubaneswar/Jajpur: A 20-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted from her hostel in Jajpur on April 10, has turned up at a Bhubaneswar hospital.

The incident came to light after the girl's family members got a call from the hospital on Tuesday night informing them that their daughter was undergoing treatment. Her condition is critical, a source said.

The girl, a student of a Chandikhole-based private college, used to stay in a private hostel near the college. She was last seen in college on April 10.

An inmate of the private hostel said the girl left with a youth on a motorcycle on April 10. "She has not returned to the hostel since then."

A source said the youth took her to a deserted location on Bhubaneswar's outskirts allegedly raped her.

Dharmasala police station inspector-in-charge Umakanta Nayak said he received the missing person's report on April 20.

Sources said the girl's mother knew that her daughter had been abducted, but did not lodge an official complaint to protect her family's honour.

The police have got in touch with the victim's family members and the private hospital in Bhubaneswar to gather more information.

"The victim's mother lodged the report where she said that her daughter fled from the hostel on April 10 without informing her," Nayak said.

After learning that the victim was undergoing treatment at a hospital, the police contacted both the mother of the girl and the hospital authorities. "We are in touch with the girl, her mother and the hospital to get information. We are investigating all angles of the case," Nayak said.
