Cuttack, Nov. 28: A series of explosions within a short span at two places within Chauliaganj police limits panicked local residents here today.

Two unidentified motorcycle-borne goons, with their faces covered, unleashed terror by lobbing at least four low intensity bombs at Mangala Sahi and Matha Sahi at around 12 noon today.

Two-year-old Sonakshi Sahu was injured after she was hit by some crude particles when a bomb exploded a few metres from her at Mangala Sahi Chhak.

Sonakshi has suffered injuries on the left side of her face and was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. She was discharged from the hospital in the evening and her condition is now said to be stable.

“I was standing holding the baby in my arms when two explosions took place. Initially, I thought it to be a cracker but later came to know that it was a crude bomb,” said Sonakshi’s grandfather Trilochan Sahu.

“I was inside the house when I heard a loud noise and later learnt that Sonakshi has been injured in the blast,” said her father Dibya Ranjan Sahu.

The victim’s family and local residents have raised concern over the deteriorating law and order situation.

“We are not feeling safe as such incidents are occurring at regular intervals. City police has failed to tighten security while the lack of adequate patrolling is also be blamed for such incidents,” said Shyam Sundar Patra, a local resident.

The police said that the bomb attack was the fall out of an ongoing dispute over a contract for construction of a road in the area.

Sources said a few local youths were repeatedly threatening the contractor who has been given the Rs 18 lakh project to lay a major road from Kameshwar temple to Maniraj biscuit factory.

When contacted, local councillor Sarojini Sahoo of ward No. 38 refused to comment on the issue.

“So far no complaint has been filed in this connection but we have already started an investigation into the incident,” said inspector in charge of Chauliaganj police station S. Mallick.
