Koraput: Police on Saturday arrested the accused, who had raped a nine-year-old girl on Friday evening.
The accused has been identified as Chandra Sekhar Barala, a resident of MV-10 village in Malkangiri police limits.
The police said family members of the girl, who originally hails from MV-17 village, had gone to their relative's home at MV-10 village on Thursday, and one of the neighbours of their relative raped the girl while she was playing outside their home around 4pm.
"While the girl was playing outside their home, the accused lured the girl by promising her giving some money and took her to his home. Then he raped the girl there," said Malkangiri police superintendent Jagmohan Meena.
After the girl narrated the incident to her parents, her father lodged a complaint at Malkangiri police station, and the police swung into action.
"The girl was rushed to district headquarters hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable," said Meena.
The accused has been arrested under Section 376 (2) (i) (punishment for rape) and Section 6 of the Pocso Act.
