Angul, May 13: Police today arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly murdering his second wife last night suspecting her of having an extramarital affair.
The accused, Ganga Gochhayat, worked as a sweeper at the Police Training College. Police sources said Ganga had two wives and six children, three from each wife.
He had always suspected his second wife, Kamini, of maintaining an extramarital relationship. Around 2am on Thursday, Ganga caught her with a youth in their house. The enraged man allegedly beat her to death on the spot.
This morning, the accused had gone to work as usual.
However, his family members knew about the incident and informed the police. The cops went to the spot and after preliminary investigation, arrested the accused.
The weapon of offence, a stick, was also seized. The police said a son of the accused had lodged an FIR at the Angul police station. In his complaint, he had alleged that his father had murdered his mother the previous night.
"As soon as we received the information, we rushed to spot and also arrested the accused from the Police Training College. We also seized the stick used in the crime. The body bore injuries on the head," said inspector in charge of Angul police station Subash Sahu.
He said the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair and last night, he had caught her and a youth red handed.
