Sambalpur, June 21: The municipal corporation is set to revamp five parks in the city.
The parks are at Gobindtola, in front of the Regional Transport Office, near the Jagannath temple, close to the Government ITI at Hirakud and at Sriram Vihar in Burla.
Deputy commissioner of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation Sudhansu Bhoi said the parks would be ready by July.
Once revamped, the parks will have walking tracks, lawns and gardens.
"I am happy that the civic body is developing walking tracks in the parks, the morning walkers will be immensely benefited," said resident Balgopal Panigrahi.
Besides, the civic body has also taken a decision to install joyrides at the parks.
"Work to erect the parks' boundary walls is over. At present, the landscape work is in progress. We will shortly take a decision on the installation of joyrides," said Bhoi.
The corporation has eight parks measuring over 318.563sqkm under its jurisdiction. Most of these parks are in a shambles.
"The existing eight parks in the city will shortly get a new look. The housing and urban development department has sanctioned Rs 27.48 lakh to develop the existing parks," said a civic body official.
Residents are upbeat over the municipal corporation's revamp drive. "It is a good idea as the population of the city is increasing and more recreational places are required now," local resident Debesh Sarangi.
According to the 2011 census, the city's population of was 3,35,761.
