Paradip, Dec. 31: Police will bring stevedoring tycoon Mahimananda Mishra on remand tomorrow to elicit evidence pertaining to the murder of Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited's general manager Mahendra Swain, who was murdered in October 26 by hired killers.
Mahima, managing director of Odisha Stevedore Limited (OSL), is lodged at Kujang jail for allegedly masterminding Swain's murder.
The Kujang judicial magistrate first class court has granted police to bring Mahima on a four-day remand. His sub-ordinate Basant Kumar Bal, executive director of the OSL, also arrested in connection with the murder, will also be brought on remand later as he is now hospitalised, said Paradip police station inspector Sashanka Sekhar Nayak.
"We are leaving no stones unturned in preparing a foolproof charge sheet for the case," he said.
As the accused are influential people with the services of a battery of eminent lawyers at their disposal, the police are trying to accumulate clinching evidence to make the case stronger for conviction, said senior police officials.
One of the prime accused, Rakesh Choubey who hails from Jharkhand, has already been grilled, and he disclosed how the crime had been committed with details of the circumstances leading to the murder. Besides, the cops have reportedly elicited clues from Sushant Sethy, a close aide of the murder accused, regarding Mahima's escape after the murder. Sethy, now under police remand for 10 days, had allegedly facilitated the safe escape of Mahima and arranged logistics.
