Berhampur, July 26: Officials of the Intelligence Bureau and police from Chhattisgarh today interrogated Maoists top leader Sabyasachi Panda, who was arrested last week from a hideout.
According to the court’s order, Panda’s lawyer Dipak Patnaik was allowed during the interrogation. But, he was kept nearly 10 feet from the interrogation room, which was separated by a glass pan. “I could not hear what was going on during the interrogation. But everything went on smoothly,” he said.
Sources in the police said a volley of questions was put to him about his involvement in looting of Nayagarh armoury and Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati murder case. Panda had played a key role in both the cases. Earlier, the top rebel had told reporters that his organisation was involved in the murder case, which had raised hue and cry across the state.
Sources said the police tried to find put whether all the weapons looted during the attack were handed over to the Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Maoist cadres or a part of the arms cache was still hidden somewhere else.
“A detailed questionnaire was prepared for him. We have also produced some documents about his link,” said a senior police official.
Chhattisgarh police wanted specific inputs about the cadres and their leaders, who had earlier worked with him before the Maoist organisation split into two groups in 2011.
Sources also revealed that Panda was asked what had prompted him to go for a split. He was also questioned about how the funds were being collected and channelised to various areas.
In yet another development, Sabyasachi’s wife Mili Panda today met him for five minutes.
