Bhubaneswar, May 23: The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar will start two new undergraduate courses in fashion communication and fashion technology from this academic year.
The four-year courses will have an intake capacity of 30 students each. Six seats for each programme will be reserved for students from the state.
Speaking on the sidelines of the third convocation of the institute, its director KCS Ray announced this here today.
He also said that the institute had successfully completed the bell metal project of the state government and was working on a new proposal called integrated skill development scheme. “We plan to impart skill training and provide placement to rural youth,” Ray said.
A total of 51 students of postgraduate programmes in fashion management and textile design were awarded degrees at the convocation.

Four students of this year’s graduating batch were awarded by the NIFT in three various categories. The NIFT best academic performance award was conferred to Arvind Singh Rathore and Ekta Saha, while the NIFT extraordinary service award was given away to Saloni Priya and the NIFT student of the year prize was conferred on Arvind Singh Rathore.
The students were given gold medals, certificate of merit and cash prize. Six other students were given the best graduation project awards in various categories. A special exhibition called Tantu 2014 was inaugurated on the occasion showcasing various products designed by the graduating students of the institute. Among the dignitaries who attended the event were K.C. Meher, secretary of textiles committee P. Nayak and design director of Jaipur Rugs Kavita Chaudhary.
