Rourkela, June 7: A team of technical experts of the town engineering water supply department has found out a solution to plug the leaking pipelines that has been causing problem in the city that has already been reeling from water crisis.

"We put in spiral welded pipe from Rourkela Steel Plant," said an engineer. It was put on trial on May 29.

"This resulted in reduction of water wastageand would function free of any problem for the next 50 years," said deputy general manager (town engineering) of RSP, P.K. Mohapatra.

The intake well pumps, also known as vertical pumps, had cast iron pipes that were installed over 20 years ago. These pipes were leaking as they could not be welded.

"However, we couldn't have delayed the process anymore as it would have caused bigger problems. We had already noticed chronic joint leakage in cast iron pipes during power failures endangering electric panels installed nearby," said an engineer involved in the water supply.
