A two-day 'Regional level CBSE Science Exhibition-2011' began on Thursday at DAV Public School (Pokhariput) in Bhubaneswar. More than 100 budding scientists from CBSE schools in Orissa, Bengal and Chhattisgarh (Bhubaneswar region) displayed nearly 70 science models on the theme “Science and Technology for Challenges of Life”.

The sub themes are green energy, transport and communication, community health, conservation and sustenance of biodiversity, agriculture and technology and mathematical modelling.

The objective of this exhibition is to stimulate interest in science and technology, inculcate the scientific spirit in younger generations and encourage problem-solving approach and develop appropriate technologies, especially for rural areas and integrating scientific ideas with daily life situations.

The projects, either a working model or an investigation-based one, would be evaluated as per the involvement of the child's own creativity and imagination, originality and innovation, scientific principle, technical workmanship and craftsmanship, utility and educational value for layman and children, economic aspect, portability, durability and, explanation and demonstration.

The exhibition is on till August 26.

Fifteen projects would be selected for the national level science exhibition to be held in September/October, said school principal Sujata. CBSE zonal officer, Dharampal Singh, inaugurated the event on Thursday morning.

Taking charge

The investiture ceremony of DAV Public School (Kansbahal) in Sundergarh district was held on August 12.

The newly elected school and house leaders took oath and were given badges of responsibility. Students of other classes assembled at the school playground to witness the event and encourage the new leaders.

Holding school flags, the new captain Himanshu Ranjan Nayak, vice-captain Bushra Neger Alam and other appointees took part in a colourful parade. Chief guest R.S. Singh from L&T Kansbahal Works, Sundergarh, addressed the students and urged the leaders to perform their duty with honesty and sincerity.

“Be the change that you want to see,” Singh advised the students.

The school also observed India's 65th Independence Day on its campus with great fanfare. Principal Rashmi Mishra hoisted the national flag. A march past by the senior students was followed by a patriotic song and a dance-cum-drill display based on the theme “Unity and Integrity of India”.

The principal exhorted those present on the occasion to uphold Indian values and build a strong moral character. Loud slogans in praise of the motherland brought the function to a close.
