Sambalpur, May 7: A dawn-to-dusk strike will be observed in western Odisha tomorrow in response to the call given by the central action committee of the Western Odisha Bar Associations pressing their demand for arrest of Sambalpur collector Mrinalini Darswal.

On April 29, the committee had given a seven-day ultimatum to the Odisha government to take action against the collector, failing which it had threatened to go for a western Odisha strike.

“The government has failed to fulfil our demands by the deadline. Now, we have decided to go for a western Odisha strike tomorrow,” member of the committee Sureswar Mishra said here today.

The legal community and the Sambalpur district collector have been at loggerheads following April 23 incident, in which Mrinalini was allegedly manhandled and her official residence was ransacked by the lawyers. Eighteen lawyers were arrested on the basis of her complaint.
