
Jagatsinghur: A 55-year-old man was killed following clash between two families over a long-standing land dispute at Baliakani village in Erasama police limits on Wednesday night.
Three persons were injured in the clash, which took place when members of both the families had exchange of words over the fencing of an agricultural land. The verbal exchange had later turned violent with both the factions fighting a pitched battle with lathis and iron rods.
"Rabindra Kumar Swain was killed in the fight, while three others from both the families were injured," said sub-divisional police officer Shiba Charan Mallick.
The deceased's family has been locked in the land dispute with his neighbour, Braja Kishore Rout, since long. The property dispute had also pending as a civil suit in a local court, the police said.
Four persons from both the families were arrested. Five others involved in the clash are absconding. The arrested persons would be later remanded in judicial custody, said the police.
Frequent land dispute related violence in Jagatsinghpur district has become a cause of bother for the police.
Twenty-eight cases of violence over land feud have been registered in police stations across the district since past three months with the murder of four persons in the violence.
