Angul: A Nalco labourer raped a six-year-old girl at a labour colony near Nalco area last week. The accused, a 25-year old youth, has been arrested.
The arrested person, Jagadish Pingua, 25, is a native of Mayurbhanj. The victim's parents have two small girls and they used to go for work leaving the girls at home.
On August 19, when the couple had gone out for work, their six-year-old daughter and her younger sister were at home.
Finding them alone, Jagadish had assaulted the girl sexually and injured her very badly. After coming home, the couple learnt the incident and admitted the child to Angul Hospital.
On Tuesday, her father lodged a complaint with Nalco police about the incident.
In the complaint, he alleged that during their absence on August 19, Jagdish had come to their house and had raped their six-year-old child. "She was severely injured. When I came from work, I found her bleeding profusely and she said that Jagadish had assaulted her," he wrote.
"As soon as I received the complaint, we visited their hut and nabbed Jadadish who confessed to committing the crime. We have forwarded him to court on the charges of rape and also under the Pocso Act," said inspector in charge of Nalco police station Gitanjali Sahu.
Extortionists held
Two extortionists who were allegedly collecting money from the crew of goods-laden trucks on the highway near Kalua Chowk junction in Sadar police limits in Berhampur were taken into custody by a special squad of police. The accused persons - Uma Bisoyi and Jamir Khan - were nabbed, while they were extorting a truck driver. A country-made pistol, ammunitions, two live country-made bombs besides two motorcycles were seized from their possession. Booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, they were later sent to jail after a local court rejecting their bail application, the police said.
