The 2017 edition of IIT Wissenaire, the annual techno-management festival of the Indian Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar, was held recently. The festival aimed to inculcate innovative ideas through quizzing, coding, designing, robotics and planning events. A performance by singer Jubin Nautiyal was one of the highlights of the festival.
Xavier conference
School of Human Resource Management, Xavier University, held a two-day human resource conference on the theme “Re-thinking People Management” to bridge the gap between human resource management stakeholders and students. Academics and research scholars presented papers on a multitude of topics covering many aspects of the subject.
The event witnessed panellists from various domains of human resource. They discussed talent management, organisational design, indigenous approaches to human resource, Indian human resources, human resource analytics and handling workplace diversity. Students talked about issues related to employment engagement, employment relations, organisational design and growth strategies of companies.
Awareness tour
A group of 220 SOA University students, who are NSS volunteers, spent a week in five villages on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar to create awareness about health care, cleanliness, safe motherhood and issues related to digital payments and the Jan Dhan Yojana.
Students play teachers
Students from the faculties of engineering and technology, dental science, management science, nursing and pharmaceutical sciences took part in camps at Jamujhari, Chhatabar, Bindhagiri, Kantabada and Malipada villages from January 26 to February 1.
They conducted health check-ups and taught mathematics and sciences to children.
Good governance
Sri Sri University organised a national conference on “Good Governance: Then, Now and Beyond” recently in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi. More than 70 researchers and academics from across the country, Estonia and Bangaladesh took part in the conference. Retired IAS officer B.K. Patnaik was the chief guest. Patnaik said minimum government and maximum governance should be analysed and explained how it reflected on contemporary discussions on the theory and practice of governance.
Help for homeless
A number of social organisations and students of BJB Autonomous College organised a photo exhibition titled “Night in Bhubaneswar” at Jayadev Bhavan recently. The exhibition aimed to create awareness on the well being of homeless people. Kasturi Mohapatra, chairperson of the Odisha State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights, and other experts in the field, took part in the exhibition and shared their thoughts with the students on the ways they could contribute to the initiative. About 70 pictures taken by students were put up at the exhibition.
Battle against cancer
Students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, observed World Cancer Day recently. Students were apprised about lifestyle-related cancer diseases. A kiosk was set up to check the nicotine-level in the participants, which was followed by a counselling session. A rangoli competition was also organised. The day was observed at other medical colleges across the state as well.
Health care programme
The department of teacher education in the Central University of Orissa organised a two-day community awareness programme at the adopted villages of the university recently. The programme was conducted at Nuaguda, Chakraliput and Rajpalma villages. The participants conducted rally, street play and door-to-door visits to create awareness about health care, hygiene, sanitation, impact of alcohol, watershed management and plantation. They distributed pamphlets and staged street plays.
