Sambalpur, Aug. 13: Police have arrested three youths from Mumbai for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl from the city.
The accused were identified as Sahil Samant, 18, Nabil Basir Khan, 21 and Saroj Chowhan, 21. The girl was rescued from Kalyan railway station in Maharashtra.
"The girl had come in contact with Sahil on a social networking site around two years ago. Recently, they fixed a date to meet in Sambalpur," said a police officer.
Subsequently, Sahil, along with two of his friends Saroj and Nabil, came to Sambalpur and stayed in a hotel. On meeting the girl, Sahil asked her to accompany them to Mumbai - to which she refused.
"Though Sahil promised to marry the girl, she expressed her reluctance to go with them. On August 6, the trio forcibly took her with them," said inspector in-charge of Town police station P.K. Sahu.
The girl's family members lodged a complaint with the Town police the same day. During investigation, the police came to know that the girl and the three accused had boarded the Puri-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express from Sambalpur railway station.
The police had sought the help of their Maharashtra counterparts. The Government Railway Police at Kalyan railway station detained the four and handed them over to Sambalpur police. On August 8, the accused were produced at a Kalyan court and then brought to Sambalpur on remand. A Samabalpur court rejected their bail plea and sent them to judicial custody.
