Bhubaneswar, July 11: A 27-year-old youth allegedly stabbed a girl and slit her throat after she rejected his marriage proposal at Sana Kuleibira village in Mayurbhanj district.

While the 23-year-old girl with serious injuries is admitted to Rairangpur Hospital, police have detained the accused, identified as Krushna Chandra Satpathy.

The police said Satpathy, who is from Ganjam district, had come in contact with the girl through a wrong number call made one year ago.

Since then, the two had started keeping in touch over phone. The police said that later, the youth had fallen in love with the girl.

"Gradually, he started visiting the girl's village," said a police official.

This time, Satpathy reached Sana Kuleibira on Sunday and this morning, they decided to meet.

"The accused proposed marriage to the girl, but she said no. This led to a heated argument between the two. In the heat of the moment, the accused stabbed the girl and slit her throat. He himself got injured during the assault. Later, local villagers nabbed him," said a police official.

The girl's condition is said to be critical.

The accused, Aditya Raj, a fourth-year BTech student, allegedly shared the video after a break-up with the girl.
