Bhubaneswar, June 27: Newly appointed in charge of Odisha Congress affairs B.K. Hariprasad today warned partymen against factional fights and told them that the party would go to elections under the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee president Jaydev Jena and Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh.
“The party has various forums. If any one has any complaints, he can air his grievances at these forums,” said Hariprasad, who replaced Jagdish Tytler as the party’s state in-charge.
He also indicated that the Pradesh Election Committee would evolve guidelines on distribution of party tickets for the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a news conference here at the Congress Bhavan, Hariprasad said his party would take up issues such as mining and deposit collection scam.
“We will soon bring a fresh charge sheet against the BJD government on the issue of mining scam, deposit collection scam and law and order problem. While lakhs of people have lost their deposits in the scam, the government remained a mute spectator,” he said.
Hitting out at the Biju Janata Dal, Hariprasad said: “If the Centre orders a CBI inquiry into the scams, all the ministers of the state government will soon find themselves behind bars.”
Exuding confidence about the Congress’s return to power in Odisha in 2014, the Congress leader said public anger against the BJD government was quite palpable.
“People are going to throw out the corrupt BJD government,” he said.
On factionalism in the party, Hariprasad said: “There might be some differences of opinion, but it will not affect the party.” On the rumours of the Congress joining hands with the BJD, Hariprasad said: “It is all baseless.”
On a question how he rated Naveen Patnaik as chief minister, Hariprasad said: “I am not here to give certificate to Naveen. He has inherited the Biju legacy, but failed to give good governance to the people of Odisha.”
It was Hariprasad’s maiden visit to Odisha after he had taken over the rein of Odisha Congress from Jagdish Tytler.
Congressmen gave him a rousing reception near the airport and brought him to the Congress Bhavan in a motorcycle rally.
