Berhampur, April 29: Police today arrested Jitendra Sethi, an alleged aide of former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, after a gunfight in a cashew forest at Golabangha.

Sethi suffered two bullet wounds on his left knee when the police fired in retaliation. Golanthara police inspector in charge Aloke Jena also suffered minor injury on his right hand when Sethi opened fire on the police, the cops said.

Berhampur Sadar sub-divisional police officer Ashok Mohanty said: "Sethi was the right-hand man of former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena. When we came to know about the Sethi's presence in the forest, two teams - one led by the Gopalpur police station inspector in charge and the other by his Golanthara counterpart - were sent to the spot. Sethi opened fire on the police when the cops surrounded him and his aides. However, he injured himself when he jumped to one side to save his life. The police team fired two rounds in retaliation," said Mohanty.

In another development, Berhampur police today also arrested Pintu Jena, a nephew of Ramesh, from Mumbai.
