Jajpur: Police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly raping his house maid at Alia village in the district on Monday.

The rape survivor, a married woman, belongs to Bhandaripokhari of Bhadrak district. A police official said the woman used to work as a maid servant in the accused's house, where he lived with his mother. He allegedly raped the maid in his house on late Friday night, the woman's complaint said.

"He had engaged me as a maid for the past two months, and since then, I had been staying at his house. On late Friday night, he came to my room, bolted the door from inside and raped me," said the woman. "He also threatened me with dire consequences if I disclosed the matter to anybody," she said.

On Saturday morning when the victim narrated the incident to the accused's mother, both of them beat her and confined her in a room. "When I told his mother that her son raped me on Friday night, she and her son thrashed me and locked me in a room," she said.

The woman managed to flee the house and approach the local police on Sunday. Acting on the complaint, Panikoili police arrested the accused from his house under sections 376 of the IPC. "We have arrested the accused under rape charge and are on the lookout for his mother, who is still at large," said Panikoili police station inspector-in-charge Ajay Kumar Jena.
