Bhubaneswar, May 16: The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) will set up its campus in Bhubaneswar by July this year.

The institute is an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Union ministry of electronics and information technology.

It was set up for human resource development in the area of information, electronics and communication technology.

An MoU was recently signed between the institute and the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) in this regard. The centre will operate from the OCAC tower initially and later move to its proposed campus.

"The institute will provide skill development training to students and unemployed youths of the state in the field of electronics and information technology. It will come up with 22 different courses for youths," said institute's director general Ashwini Kumar Sharma.

The institute plans to train 5,000 youths every year.

"The state has a sizeable population of SC and ST youths, so concerted efforts are required to empower them through industry-oriented employment courses in electronics and information technology," Sharma said.

A meeting was held recently with about 30 training partners for the institute. OCAC has provided a free built up space measuring about 7100 sqft for the institute. The state government has allotted 15 acres in Infocity-II near Jatni on the outskirts of the city for the permanent campus of the institute.

"Around 50 crore will be invested for setting up the campus," Sharma said.

The institute will have courses for law enforcement agencies, students and common people.

The institute will develop excellence in (IT) information technology /ITES (information technology enabled services) areas such as cyber security and VLSI (very-large-scale integration) to enhance skills and employability of the youths in the state.

The trained hands from the institute will be used to roll out of capacity building projects by the state and the Union governments.

It will also provide training on use of goods and services tax (GST) and its software, digital literacy, digital payment, digital signature and cyber space.

This apart, the institute will also offer job-oriented courses on repairing of electronics appliances and machines such as mobile, television, computer, fridge and air conditioners.
