Sambalpur, July 7: Resentment is brewing among the residents of Budharaja here over non-completion of a drain along the Fatak-Ainthapali main road of the city.

The road and building department is carrying out construction of the drain along the road. However, it has been stopped near the entrance gate to Budharaja temple.

With monsoon hitting the city, rainwater and drain water were flowing over the road making the place unhygienic.

The residents alleged that due to clogged water, the place had apparently been converted into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“The authorities should have completed the drain’s construction before the advent of rains. The rainwater cannot find passage to be released, creating problem for the residents. Initiative should be taken to complete the construction as soon as possible,” said Yagyan Narayana Pradhan, a local resident.

Local councillor Sushanta Dansena said he had also received complaints from the people of that area. “The authorities should take initiative to complete the drain as soon as possible,” he said.

Local people earlier drew the district administration’s attention for construction of the drain after the encroachments had been removed.

Assistant executive engineer of the road and building department P.K. Nath said: “Due to lack of funds, the work has been stopped there. However, we will make alternative arrangement and solve the problem as soon as possible.”
