Theatre group Shatabdira Kalakar presented its latest production, January 30, at the Sarat Natya Mahotsav at Bhanja Kala Mandap in the city last week. The play portrayed a contrast between Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of India and the country today.
“The play shows that how insensitive and materialistic human beings have become these days. January 30 is observed as Martyr’s Day in our country, but does this day actually have any relevance? The day has become limited to lectures and garlanding of Gandhi’s statues. The powerful people continue to suppress the under-privileged. This is not the country that Gandhi envisioned,” said the director of the play, Alok Agnibesh. The play is written by Narendra Mishra.
