Bhubaneswar, April 6: A 33-year-old jilted lover who had been in jail for three years for attacking a girl with a dagger in 2011 was today arrested again for allegedly threatening her.
The victim, who studied in Class X in a city school three years ago, is now pursuing a law degree course in a government college.
The accused, Santosh Kumar Pradhan, was released from the jail in Feburary. He had threatened the girl with dire consequences.
Pradhan, who was a salesman in a shoe store, had attacked the girl with a dagger near Rasulgarh Square when she was returning home from a private coaching class in Feburary, 2011. The 16-year-old girl had suffered injuries on her neck, cheek and hands. He was convicted in the case and was jailed for three years.
Today, when the girl was coming out of her institute, Pradhan intercepted her and stopped her near Satsang Vihar. "He proposed to her. When she resisted, he threatened her with dire consequence if she did not accept. Pradhan had a heated argument with her and allegedly slapped the girl," said a police official.
"We have arrested Pradhan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code," said inspector in-charge of Saheed Nagar police station Deepak Kumar Mishra.
In the February 2011 incident, the girl, accompanied by three other girls, was walking to her house when the bike-borne youth attacked her with a dagger. Earlier, the girl had already told her family about how Pradhan had been harassing her and he was told not to trouble her.
The girl's family is in a shock. "We cannot believe he harassed her again. She had struggled to overcome the trauma. The latest incident took place when everything seemed to be normal," said the uncle of the girl.
A few months after the 2011 attack, the victim had appeared in her Class X exam and scored an A2 (85 to 90 per cent).
