COLLEGE CAMPUS 

Nalco signed a memorandum of understanding with Utkal University on January 8 to create more skilled manpower. They will collaborate in areas such as research and development, baseline and impact assessment survey for CSR projects, industry and institution interactions, and skill development.

Nobel talks

Muhammad Yunus, Nobel laureate and chairman of Grameen Bank and Yunus Centre, Bangladesh, visited KIIT University recently to interact with students. He said students should think big but start with small initiatives to achieve success. Among others, Achyuta Samnata, founder of KIIT, was present during the discussion.

Football time

A football competition for colleges under North Orissa University was organised on the Sriram Chandra Bhanj College campus recently. Seventeen colleges took part and the final match was played between Nalagaja College and Rairangpur College. The former defeated Rairangpur by 2-1 to emerge champion. 

Photo exhibition

A photo exhibition — Night at Bhubaneswar — was held at BJB College in Bhubaneswar recently. 
The department of journalism and mass communication, along with various social organisations, organised the event to create awareness on issues related to the homeless and night shelters. 

Young scientist 

Satyabadi Martha, assistant professor at the Centre for Nano Science and Nano Technology, SOA University, has been conferred the Young Scientist Award by the Indian Science Congress Association for 2016-17. 

Civil service tips

Berhampur University will shortly have coaching facilities on campus to help civil services aspirants. 
A proposal in this regard was mooted at the vice-chancellors’ conference and the state government has given its nod. The move was taken as very few students were clearing the exam. 

Language focus

The annual function of Jyoti Vihar College, Sambalpur, was held recently. Students of the institution took part in various cultural programmes. Kosali poet Haldhar Nag, who was the chief guest, spoke about the importance of regional literature. Poet Nitish Acharya was guest of honour. 

Annual festival

Hrushikesh Ray College, Rourkela, celebrated its 31st annual festival recently. Former director of NIT, Rourkela, Somanatha Mishra, inaugurated the festival. He was accompanied by educationist Kishori Das, who talked about the importance of discipline. 

Human rights

Municipal College, Rourkela, held a workshop on human rights on December 9. Hosted by the political science department of the college, the workshop stressed the need for human rights awareness. Rourkela additional district magistrate Manisha Banerjee was the chief guest.
