Berhampur, May 29 (PTI): An illegal gutka manufacturing unit was today unearthed and five persons were arrested in this connection at Hinjili in Ganjam district, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a house and arrested the persons. Mixture machines, automatic packing machines, 10 bags of gutka pouches, spices used in gutka and empty pouches were seized from the house, Hinjili police station inspector-in-charge P.K. Sahoo said.

The owner of the unit was also among the persons arrested, he said.A mini truck, a motorcycle and some other articles were also seized from the site, the police said.

Criminal held

Police today arrested Sanatan Mahanta, a most-wanted criminal from Bihar from Puri district and forwarded him to court. According to sources, Sanatan, who has been absconding for the last 14 years, was staying in Puri for the past 10 years. The police grew suspicious of Sanatan's movements after he was found roaming with a woman yesterday and interrogated him before arresting him.

Youth killed

Six goons killed a youth near Uttara Square on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar last night over a village feud. Sources said the youth, a resident of Baramana village, was attacked by the criminals while he was returning home from a nearby market. Though he was admitted to Capital Hospital in critical condition, he later succumbed to his injuries.

SCB attack

A group of junior doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack today allegedly beat up the attendants of a patient for not complying with their order to vacate a bed in the orthopaedics department. The three attendants, identified as Pradyumna Rout, Krushan Mohan Das and Kumudini Ray, suffered injuries on their face and neck. They are being interrogated at the SCB police outpost after their medical examination.
